The zip code of a person's birth shouldn't be the number one indicator of how long they'll live, and yet in America that's the case, and in the majority of the rest of the world it is the case that location will determine your health and prosperity. The owning class, mostly whites, pull the ladders up behind them, lock their private community gates, and are contented by knowing that *their* children will be granted a dignified life because they have money, generational wealth from their parents, and a number of other protections in place for only themselves. Capitalism largely works for the owning class, that's why they like it so much, but for the vast, vast majority of the world, basic rights, let alone luxuries, are few and far between.

I guess this serves as your occasional reminder that voter file data is generally just chilling out there for political parties (or anyone else) to buy, at most behind a $200 paywall or something and an agreement to only use the data for approved purposes

What I mean is I’m stoned and feel like our understanding of history is largely shaped by eggheads writing about the conquests of chads and it really didn’t have to be like that.

Anyway Intersectionality correctly perceives power and privilege as multipolar, but its activist practitioners tend to reduce everything to a simple one-dimensional oppression ranking, missing the point entirely.

of course this all is a bit like trying to catch a fly with a mallet, because most people who 'believe in science' or w/e probably have no idea what any of this means. they just think space or nuclear reactors or whatever are cool. which isn't wrong, just, you are allowed to look at stars and experience wonder without having to build an entire worldview on this teetering tower of category mistakes, mutually contradictory axioms, and colonialist ideology?

You're not a purely logical agent in the world. You don't even want to be. If you had to run a comprehensive computation of risk every time you stepped out the door, you would never do anything. You cannot act in the world as a logical, rational agent. What you're doing when you start talking about adopting a scientific view of the world is talking about adopting science, the cultural entity, as your frame of reference, because that act performs some function for you. That's fine, by all means do so, but be aware that "science" and the scientific method are two different entities.

If you think that you as a scientist do not have precisely the same kind of relationship to your favorite model of the universe as "superstitious ancient peoples," you are totally kidding yourself.
